Shirley Kirby, 94, passed away peacefully at her assisted living residence in Pinellas Park, FL where she resided since 2021.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Shirley retired to St. Petersburg in 1993 after a long career as a medical secretary with a foster care agency in Manhattan.
Upon retiring, she soon went back to work, first at JC Penney, and then 16 years at Walmart as a cashier, retiring from Walmart in 2013. She was an excellent cook, loved traveling, being with her family, playing Mahjongg and knitting.
Married to her childhood sweetheart Philip in 1952, they honeymooned in St. Pete, the start of a wonderful 63 year marriage until Phil's passing in 2015. She was also preceded in death by her parents Abraham and Leah Slep and brothers Morris Slep and Marvin Slep.
Survivors include her daughter Robin Kane of Brooklyn, NY and son Hyde (Ilene) Kirby of Yardley, PA, grandchildren Allison (Nicolo) Napoli of Levittown, NY, Melissa Kane of Brooklyn NY, Mitchell (Rebecca) Kirby of Chicago and Samantha (Andrew) McKenna of Atlanta. Great granchildren in order of birth, Antoinette, Andrew, Alyssa, Ariella, William and Jack.
Nephew Gary Slep of Wayland, MA, Nieces Toby Slep of San Diego, Sharon Slep of Arlington, MA, Sophia Purzak of Emerson, NJ and Michele Bahar of South Florida. First Cousins Judith of Toronto, Maxine of Tucson AZ, Jacqueline and Fred Saccucci of St. Petersburg.
