With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Richard “Dick” Elliott Bernard, who left us on March 3, 2025 in Oldsmar, Florida, at the age of 90. Born Feb. 2nd, 1935 in Brooklyn, New York, Dick was a man who lived life with laughter, love, and an adventurous spirit.
A proud class clown, Dick’s humor and warmth left an unforgettable mark on everyone who knew him. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Joy Bernard, with whom he shared 70 wonderful years of love and partnership. Together, they built a beautiful family, raising three wonderful children: Scott and his wife Ana, Mark and his wife Cindy, and Stacy and her husband Kevin.
Dick’s greatest joy was his family, and he cherished his role as a grandfather to nine grandchildren and a great-grandfather to seven great-grandchildren.
His passions were as vibrant as his personality. He found joy in traveling the world, capturing moments through photography, birdwatching, and playing tennis. A true foodie, he relished discovering new flavors and sharing meals with family and friends. Above all, he was kind, passionate, and encouraging, always inspiring those around him to embrace life to the fullest.
A graveside service will be held at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park on Sunday, March 9, at 1 PM, 2860 Sunset Point Road in Clearwater, with Rabbi Gary Klein officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Dick’s memory by sharing a joke, exploring a new place, or simply enjoying a great meal with loved ones.
His legacy of love and laughter will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
Heritage Funeral Care, Largo Florida is serving the family.
