It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Beveda 'Veda' Houze, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother dedicated educator, and cherished friend. 'Veda' peacefully departed from this world at her home in St. Petersburg, Florida, on August 7, 2024, at the age of 92.
Born in Hapeville, Georgia, on April 16, 1932, 'Veda' was a woman of unwavering kindness, grace, and resilience. Her love for nurturing young minds led her to a fulfilling career as an elementary school teacher for 25 years. Veda's impact on her students extended far beyond the classroom, shaping the future of countless individuals with her passion for education.
Beveda Houze was a proud alumna of Berry College in Rome, Georgia, where she honed her skills and knowledge before embarking on her teaching journey. Her dedication to learning and sharing knowledge left an indelible mark on all those she encountered.
Outside of her professional life, 'Veda' found solace and joy in the simple pleasures of reading and solving crossword puzzles. Her curiosity and intellectual pursuits were a testament to her sharp mind and lifelong love for learning.
A woman of great warmth and compassion, Beveda Houze was the loving wife of the late Edmund Houze. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. She is survived by her son, Edmund Houze, and his wife Juvy, her daughter, Catherine Yann, and her husband Greg, along with seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Beveda's family was her pride and joy, and her legacy of love and dedication will continue to live on through them.
A Funeral Service to honor and celebrate the life of Beveda 'Veda' Houze will be held Monday, August 12, 2024, at the Gateway Christian Center, 6740 Park Street South in South Pasadena, Florida. Visitation will begin at noon, with services to follow at 1:00 PM with a time for remembrance and reflection. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memory Gardens, St. Petersburg. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by 'Veda' are invited to pay their respects and share in the memories of a remarkable woman who touched the hearts of many.
In her passing, 'Veda' leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering dedication to her family, friends, and students. May her gentle soul rest in eternal peace, knowing that she was cherished and adored by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
