Arlene Pierce

Arlene Regina Pierce, a vibrant and animated individual who touched the lives of many, passed away unexpectedly on December 6, 2024, in Largo, Florida. Born on March 7, 1937, in Brooklyn, New York, Arlene's spirit and charisma were evident from a young age.

Education played a significant role in shaping Arlene’s illustrious life. Raised on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, Arlene attended The High School of Performing Arts, followed by Professional Children's School in New York City, and later graduated from Butler University in Indiana and earned an MS from Virginia Tech. These formative years helped cultivate her talents and passion for the performing arts, highlighted by performances with Starlight Musicals, work with Ballet Russe de Monte-Carlo, and various television appearances, all hallmarks which remained a constant throughout her life.

A resident of Falls Church Virginia for over five decades, prior to retiring to Seminole Florida, Arlene was known for her lively personality, once even described as a "force of nature." As a great talker who exuded passion and joy, she had a unique ability to engage those around her. Arlene's outgoing demeanor drew many to her, and her vibrant spirit left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered.

Beyond her professional accomplishments and years of teaching ballet, Arlene found joy in various hobbies and interests. She was an avid tennis player and enjoyed collecting shells, often spending time by the shore to gather beautiful treasures from the sea. Her love for the arts was profound, with a particular fondness for attending live performances, especially opera and ballet, where she could immerse herself in the world of creativity and expression.

Arlene's legacy is cherished by her loving family. She is survived by her devoted spouse, Larry, her loving daughter Pitzy Pierce-Hurwitz, her son-in-law Steven Hurwitz, and her granddaughter Patricia Hurwitz. Each of them carries forward the love and loyalty she cultivated in their lives.

Arlene is preceded in death by her parents, David and Evelyn Tarlow, who provided an encouraging environment that laid the foundation for her spirited and dynamic life.

As we celebrate the life of Arlene, we remember her as a radiant individual whose passion for life, art, and family will never be forgotten. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and inspiration for her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Heritage Funeral Care, Largo Florida is serving the family.
